Big ALOHA from DAVID and ANA! We hail from Sausalito, CA and Raleigh, NC and have farmed this small 6 acre farm in the wettest part of the Kona Coffee Belt since 2006. We are quite sure this is SACRED LAND and feel honored to be its guardians.
We take pride in producing our special Kona coffee the old fashioned way.
We personally do most all the labor of pruning, selecting the pruned trees, fertilizing the pruned trees and harvesting and processing the ripe red coffee cherry at its peak.
Our farm is in a true RAIN FOREST with ferns pretty much everywhere. This tiny climate niche is unique in the 25mile long by 3 mile wide "Kona coffee belt". This belt legally defines what can be called Kona coffee. Our high moisture, deep volcanic soil and dependable afternoon shade (no need for an over story canopy when the weather gives us true "shade grown coffee") provide nearly PERFECT growing conditions which combine to produce extraordinary coffee.
Beware of any packaging which does not say "100% Kona Coffee" as blenders commonly take advantage of the lax labeling laws which allow the words "Kona Blend" to contain a mere 10% Kona coffee amidst 90% unidentified coffee beans. Some years go, the Coffee Review gave us a 91 score and described our coffee as "A QUINTESSENTIALLY DELICATE KONA".
We also produce MACADAMIA NUTS, but for the moment we have neither coffee nor nuts for sale.
We'll update this site with information when we have products for sale. I'm hoping to create a gift package that combines nuts and coffee and local exotic fruits with chocolate. Also planning on making a special shortbread with organic butter and our macnuts.
We do welcome qualified FARM VOLUNTEERS through the WORKAWAY website and hope prospective volunteers will get an idea of what our farm is like.
We also welcome past and future customers to take a virtual tour of Moonstruck Farm.
